Jiu Zhai Gou located in the northwest of China's Sichuan Province, J is the world-class 5A level tourist destination. Nine Tibetan villages and special natural land-scales name it by “Jiu Zhai Gou”. So far, the ecological environment protection around the area is quite complete, with 108 lakes and vast tracts of virgin forest, including colorful ponds and waterfalls of various sizes. Jiu Zhai Gou also has many rare species of animals. Until now, Jiu Zhai Gou's fame has become louder and louder. It has been so famous and be named in "fairyland in the world".

The economic benefits created by Jiu Zhai Gou began from 1984, increasing from 1 million yuan per year to 6 billion yuan per year, and the number of visitors is increasing constantly and annually. Economically, this is undoubtedly huge profits but also brings a problem for sustainable management. The world tourism organization defined sustainable tourism as:Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities. Because of its high altitude, geographical location, and complex natural conditions, Jiu Zhai Gou it has its own extreme vulnerability. The Jiuzhaigou management team has been working hard to protect this vulnerability in the last ten years.

First of all, China's huge population and a large number of tourists are the basic problems for the destruction of tourist attractions. In order to alleviate this situation, Jiu Zhai Gou began to shut down all the hotels in the area from 2000, which has effectively reduced the burden of domestic pollution and the number of tourists. Second, because forest coverage of Jiu Zhai Gou is too large, fire prevention is also one of the major strategies. In the past 27 years, there has not been any of a forest fire in Jiuzhaigou. Beyond that, Jiuzhaigou has put large amount workers and volunteers into pollution management system, which almost achieves the goal of efficient pollution and plastic collection. 2007-2008 years was the worst pollution stage of Jiuzhaigou, and even some voice of “Jiuzhaigou’s disappearing” was in the social media. But because of the efforts of the team, five color pool’s water has basically been complete recovery, air quality has been greatly improved than before, and many rare animal breeding habitats in the normal step, which can be said that the overall ecological environment of Jiu Zhai Gou is healthy and positive.

Currently, oversize of tourism population and natural resource vulnerability is the most serious problem that Jiu Zhai Gou has to face with, therefore, appreciate the suggestion on how do the management team working with sustainable tourism in Jiu Zhai Gou will be:

  1. The controlling of visitors’ number. For example, give the minimum time for each tourist attractions, minimize the daily number of visitor.
  2. Set the government regulatory, for example, give the punishment and encouragement policy on infrastructure criteria and pollution management.
  3. For different aspects of water, give the different strategies for improvement. Because of the specialties of natural resource, find the specific way for water improvement is needed.
