Lighthouse Point Marina

Lighthouse Point Marina

The Lighthouse Point Marina, located in Broward County, was the 74th marina to be recognized as a Clean Marina by the Clean Boating Partnership. This Partnership includes the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Marine Industries Association of Florida, Florida Sea Grant Program, United States Coast Guard, USCG Auxiliary, USCG Sea Partners Program, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, in addition to marina and boatyard operators. This public/private partnership provides assistance and evaluation, program outreach, workshops, technical assistance and mentoring. All of this is provided with a mission to create a clean boating environment and to pursue environmental protection through non-regulatory approaches that achieve higher levels of protection with increased citizen participation. When a facility is designated as a Clean Marina, they have earned recognition as a good environmental citizen and will be promoted on the Florida Department of Environmental Protection website. The marina also gets to display the Clean Marina Program flag on site, and use the logo in all marketing materials. The marina also enjoys monetary benefits through its recycling programs that generate income and improved facility operation cost efficiency. There’s also the potential for available grant assistance to install pump out facilities and access to technical assistance from the Partnership.

Lighthouse Point is a full-service marina, located in the heart of a small seaside community, that’s been family owned and operated for more than fifty years. The marina is conveniently located near the Hillsboro Inlet with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. It’s home to more than 100 boat slips that can accommodate twenty-five to eighty foot vessels. It also houses several amenities including a laundry room, mail room, restaurant, heated swimming pool, tennis court, pump-out station, ship store, and even a shuttle to local retail shops provided by the city of Lighthouse Point. As a Founding Member of the Lighthouse Point Chamber of Commerce, the Marina is also involved in the community by supporting numerous local charities and by serving as board members of various civic organizations.

By becoming a member of the Clean Marina Program, Lighthouse Point Marina has implemented Best Management Practices that protect Florida’s waterways and is helping to address critical issues such as habitat protection, waste management, and spill prevention. And while there is certainly a monetary gain to be won, it cannot be beaten by the fact that they are safeguarding the environment for future generations that call its small town home.
