Blue Community Program for Destinations, Hotels & REsorts
The Blue Community is pleased to announce a new Sustainable Tourism Management program that is being developed with an interntional team and partnership with the University of Central Florida Rosen College of Hospitality Management and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
The Blue Community destination program has an emphasis on coastal habitat protection, enhancement and restoration. Some of its features include:
A community or destination sustainability assessment that utilizes a Customized app created for each community or destination with option to utilize block chain technology for easy reporting
Futuring Workshop to develop shared vision and assist communities to live into the future.
Development of a Sustainability Plan with outcomes, actions, and indicators
One Planet Living Integration training
Culture based leadership development
Implementation Strategies
Evaluation, Renewal, and Extension of the program.
PM4SD Training (Project Management 4 Sustainable Development
The Community or Destination Assessment inludes:The ten One Planet Living Principles to reduce carbon and ecological footprint
The 12 Blue Community Strategies co-developed with the Walt Disney Company Animal Science and Environment Team
The required issues from UNWTO International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories
Policy review according to the science of the Nine Planetary Boundaries
Administered by the Blue Community Consortium, a UNWTO Affiliate, and accredited member of the UNEP Major Stakeholders Group, and has been in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2019.
The assessment process is at 4 levels: Coral Reef, Sea Turtle, Dolphin, & Whale
There are several programs for communities and destinations. What makes the Blue Community program unique is its emphasis on protection, enhancement, and restoration of coastal habitat, and marine environments that are so vital for much of the tourism industry. Some key features of the program:
Option to have staff certified as One Planet Living Integrators
Option to have staff certified in Project Management for Sustainable Development (PM4SD) to effectively implement Sustainable Management Systems
Opportunity to learn from and share best practices through international organizaitons such as the GSTC, UNWTO Affiliate Program, Bioregional, and PM4SD.
Global approach that increases opportunity for increased international travel market share
